Leadership Rebalance

Leadership Values

Moving into a new or larger role can challenge our sense of identity. This is especially true when we have built our job, and how we perform it, into our core identity and self-image.

The growth and changes we need to make to succeed in that role can feel as though we are leaving part of ourselves behind. At times it can even feel inauthentic.

By focusing on our values, and the way we consistently want to show up, we hold on to our core sense of self. We may simply apply those values a little differently, depending on what the role demands.

To get you started, you've been randomly assigned a set of values cards. Swap out those that don't speak to you using the rest of the deck below. Although all values are positive, try to hone in on the five that are most important to you.

Take a moment to reflect.

Which of these feels most important right now? Which would be hardest to set aside? Was there one you nearly swapped out, and what made you keep it?

Notice the colours. Do your values gather in one or two families, or spread across several? There is no right pattern. A tight cluster shows where your centre of gravity sits. A wide spread shows range. All are welcome.
